Owenisms
A few new Owenisms...
1. "Yip" - this is Owen's newest thing lately. He says this in response to questions that the answer is yes. It is very precise and to the point. "Owen, did you have fun at the gym today?" "Yip!" "Do you want to go to Moes for dinner?" "Yip!" Pretty much any question that the answer is yes, he responds this way. We thought it was funny for about the first week, but now we are trying to get him back in the habit of saying, "Yes" or "Yes Ma'am/Yes Sir." It got old really quickly ;)
2. "Butt" - This isn't what it seems. For whatever reason, Owen can't seem to say the word "button." Instead, every time he tries to say it, it comes out, "Butt." So, he will be showing us how to a toy works and say, "You have to push this butt to make it work." Or, he will say, "see my belly butt?" One day, I guess he will actually add on the last syllable of the word. But, for now, I think this is cute!
3. "Watch my belly move" - Several times now, Owen has been able to feel my belly move or watch it. He loves it and always asks me "Is your baby moving, Mommy?," because he wants to feel it. So, one day last week, he was laying on our bed, watching TV, while I got a shower and got dressed for the day. He called for me to come in the room and said, "Wook Mommy, my belly's movin'! You wanna feel it?" I about died! I said, "Sure buddy...why is your belly moving?" He told me, "there's a baby in there!" Hilarious! Apparently, he has a baby in his belly, too! Who knew?! He has told a few people to watch his belly moving and it cracks me up! I have tried explaining to him that it is actually just him breathing, but he really seems to think there is a baby in there. Who am I to shoot that down, right?
4. "Spicy Sugar" - Owen has been completely obsessed with salt lately. He wants it on everything! And, he wants to put it on himself, which can obviously be a disaster! He knows that it is called salt, but one day, we were in the car, heading to Moes, and Owen was telling Randy that he wanted chips. He said, "and, I want to put spicy sugar on it!" We both looked at each other, wondering what on earth he was talking about. It was at about the same moment that it hit both of us that he was talking about salt and we were cracking up! He also calls the salsa at Moes, "spicy dip dip." You see, we call anything that he dips his food in (ketchup, salsa, dressing, etc), "dip dip." So, since the salsa is spicy, that is "spicy dip dip." He sure does come up with some stuff sometimes ;)
5. "Mommy, pwease be quiet..." - Last Sunday, after watching the AFC Championship game at Grammy and Pappers' house, it was pretty late when we were driving home. Owen had also been playing pretty hard with Drew and was obviously so exhausted. I guess I was talking too loudly in the car and he wanted to go to sleep. So, all of a sudden, we heard from the back seat, "Mommy, pwease be quiet and whisper...I need to take a happy nappy!" (probably about a year ago, Randy decided one day that we shouldn't say "night night" when we put Owen down for his nap, so he came up with saying "happy nappy" instead. It stuck and we now call his naps "happy nappies") I just looked at Randy and died laughing. What else can you do? He cracks us up!
6. "Daddy went crazy..." - Way back in May or June, Randy stayed home with Owen one night so that I could go out with Ms. Holly to dinner and to see Miss Saigon. This was during a really rough time for Owen with his night time routine. For whatever reason, he was really giving us a hard time at night and fighting bed time hard. So, on this particular night, he kept turning on his light and calling out from his room. Randy said that he had probably been up and down the stairs to see what he needed close to ten times. Slowly but surely, each time he went in Owen's room, his patience started to wane. So, he finally told Owen that if he turned his light on one more time, he was going to take his light bulb out. I guess after Randy left the room, Owen turned the light on again and started calling out. So, by this time, Randy had lost his cool and walked in, took out the light bulb, and gave Owen a stern talking to. Well, here we are 8 or 9 months later and to this day, Owen will still randomly bring up that night, telling anyone who will listen. He says, "my Daddy...he went crazy and he took my white bulb out!" ("white bulb" because he still has a hard time with his "L's") Literally, that is the only time Randy has ever lost his cool with Owen, so I guess it has really stuck with him and it made an impression! All we can do when he says it to people is explain the story and just laugh!
7. "Cwose the door swow-wee" - As for Mommy, I can't say that I have only lost my cool one time with Owen! It doesn't happen often, but it has definitely been more than once. And, usually, when it does happen, it is at bed time. I try really hard to do the breathing thing and just step back and handle things calmly. For the most part, I do a good job, but let's face it, nobody is perfect! Owen seems to go through phases of giving us trouble at night and for sleeping times. Ever since he started sleeping through the night at nine months, he has been a great sleeper. That is, with the exception of the times he has one of these phases. We can never seem to figure out what causes them and within a few days to a few weeks, they always pass. Anyway, there is just something so frustrating to me about him giving us such a hard time when he is supposed to be sleeping. I think it is because I know he can and does sleep so good and that he can go down nicely. Anyway, there were 2 nights in a row a few months ago that I lost my cool with him and I slammed his door on my way out of his room (let me just say that it didn't change anything either time and upset both of us more than it did any good, but when you've had it, you've had it, you know?) So, ever since then, every time we put him down (for nap or bed time), as we walk out of his room, he says, "cwose the door swow-wee." Remember he can't say his "L's", so that's "close the door slowly." I guess, like with Daddy, it made an impression and has stuck with him. I promise I won't be slamming his door anymore! He was obviously traumatized in some way and that really wasn't the point. But, how funny that he now makes it a part of his routine to ask us to close his door slowly as a result of just 2 times of slamming?! He is a mess!!

25 weeks
A delayed posting for this week...
Work has been crazy for me this week and will continue to be because I am working on getting all of my clients' 2010 year end information together and submitted by the 31st. So, all of my "free" time has gone straight to work, which has me stressed and exhausted, but I will get through it...only a few more days and I can breath/sleep a little easier. We were able to take the pictures on Sunday, but I haven't had time to upload and blog. However, since Owen is eating his lunch right now, I have a few minutes to do an update.
I don't have much to report this week. I am still feeling great and loving the second trimester. I would describe it as Heaven compared to the first trimester. I remember this with Owen as well...the second trimester has me feeling better than I ever do, pregnant or not. I really can't complain at all about anything right now. Other than feeling the baby moving around and feeling like I could eat everything in sight (which did NOT happen with Owen...I am pretty sure I will gain more weight this time around, from eating more and from not being able to really work out like I would love to), I really don't feel pregnant at all. Oh, but, there is also the fact that I can't bend over anymore without losing my breath. Tying my shoes, bending over to pick up toys/dropped objects, etc are all getting a little tougher these days. But, it really isn't a problem, just more or less something I am becoming aware of!

24 weeks
There isn't much to report this week. But, I did get my first comment from a stranger noticing I was pregnant at church yesterday! It is exciting to finally know that people who don't know me can tell (with belly covered...I know anyone can tell if I were to lift my shirt like in these pictures, but really, who walks around like that?).

Snow Day!!
Wednesday was a very fun day! We woke up to, what I later measured to be, 9 inches of snow! We knew it was coming and it started on Tuesday afternoon. But, what I didn't realize was how fast it was going to come down. Thank God for our neighbor, Brendan! Randy was out of town and with my placenta previa, I am not allowed to shovel the snow, so Brendan came to my rescue. Otherwise, our driveway would have been a bear for Randy to shovel when he got home. Anyway, Wednesday morning, we went outside to join Owen's buddies, Elizabeth (who was out of school that day) and Gabriella for some fun play time in the snow! We had such a wonderful time! We actually stayed outside almost 2 hours!! That is a LONG time for a 3 year old in 20 degree weather, but I swear he was completely oblivious to the cold. He cried when I told him it was time to go in for lunch and nap! As you can see from the pictures, Owen was completely in his element and having the time of his life!

Ahh, Winter!

Welcome 2011
For New Year's Eve this year, we went over to some friends' house to celebrate. We took all of Owen's bedtime stuff with us, assuming he and Drew would end up crashing on the couch in the basement, but that just didn't happen. Those 2 silly boys ended up staying up until past midnight! I was shocked! As soon as the ball dropped, we headed home to get the little man to bed, because though he wouldn't admit it, he was exhausted!!
On New Year's Day, we had the Pughs over for the morning to hang out and to exchange Christmas gifts with the kids. Even though we live right next door, we have not been able to hang out with them much at all in the last few weeks because of all of the holiday craziness, so it was nice to spend some time just hanging out and catching up.
We ended New Year's Day watching the Pens play in the Winter Classic. Though it didn't end as we had hoped (the Pens lost), it was fun to watch. Owen got to watch the first period with his Daddy. They definitely share that passion for hockey, that is for sure!

The Coopers' visit
The Coopers came to visit last week and we had so much fun with them. As always, the visit just seemed too short, but we packed a lot in and enjoyed the little time we did have together. Of course, I didn't pull out my camera enough, so I don't have many pictures to share. But, maybe Amy got some that I didn't?!?!
They arrived late Tuesday evening, after having to delay their trip by a day due to the blizzard that hit Greenville. Who would have ever thought the weather in Greenville would be the reason that their trip got delayed and we wouldn't have much snow at all here? Anyway, we just had pizza that night and did some catching up. Wednesday, the guys got up and went skiing at Seven Springs for the day, while the girls and the kids went shopping! Since ECU played in their bowl game that day, we recorded the game, ordered take out from Quaker Steak, and all watched it together when the guys got home. We ended up turning the game off sometime in the 3rd quarter...enough was enough in that awful game. A fan can only take so much! Thursday, I had to visit a client in the morning and then when I got home, we all went to Moes for lunch and then went ice skating. Of course, I didn't get to skate and Amy didn't want to, so we watched as the guys took Owen and Bella out. Bella had so much fun on her first ice skating adventure. Thursday night, we got a babysitter for Owen and Bella and we went out, just adults. We went to Outback for dinner and we wanted to go bowling, but when we got there, we found out it was league night, so no lanes were available. So, we hung out at the bar in the alley and headed back earlier than planned to relieve the babysitter. The kids seemed to have had a blast together while we were gone. The Coopers had to leave early on Friday morning to make it back in time to pick Frosty up from the kennel. We had so much while they were here, that is for sure! We are already counting down the days until we will get together again.
